Deaths of Goan Artistes Condoled



TAG Condoled the deaths of  Goan Artistes 
"Anthony Gonsalves, Antonio Moraes and Mathew Perry"


Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) condoled the deaths of Anthony Gonsalves, Antonio Moraes and Mathew Perry, the Goan artistes who expired recently in a special condolence meeting organized by TAG on 22nd February 2012 at the Black Box, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.

The condolence meeting started by observing one minute silence for the tragic deaths of students and others in the bus tragedy at Calvim Goa.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri.Tomazinho Cardozo, President of TAG highlighted the immense contribution of late Anthony Gonsalves to Konkani as well as Bollywood music. Speaking on Antonio Moraes, Mr.Cardozo said that he was a good musician as well as writer and director of Khell & Khell-Tiatrs. Mathew Pereira was a singer, writer and actor who introduced many new faces on the tiatr stage, Mr.Cardozo concluded.

Speaking on the occasion, C.D’Silva expressed his shock due to the death of A.Moraes with whom he had a long association on the field of Khell-Tiatr. Osvi Viegas, another artiste of tiatr stage also remembered A.Moraes as a great director. He also paid rich tributes to Anthony Gonsalves and Mathew Perry for their contribution in music and tiatrs.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Anil Kumar, Premanand Sangodkar and Dr.Rafael Fernandes who remembered their experiences with the artistes who have given so much for the development of Konkani music and Konkani drama.

Philo Shares her Experiences


Philomena D’Souza popularly known as Philo de Pilerne, a popular tiatr artiste of yester years – shared her experiences on the tiatr stage with her fans in the monthly programme ‘Kolakarak Bhett’ – Meet the Artiste – organized by Tiatr Academy Goa (TAG) on 21/02/2012 at TAG’s Conference Hall, Campal Trade Centre, Campal, Panjim.

Speaking further Philo de Pilerne disclosed that she was fond of acting in tiatrs right from her childhood days. She got a break in the tiatr ‘Dukhi Sonvsar’ written by Anthony Correia Pienkar in the late 1960s. The tiatr was staged on the occasion of the village feast of St. Anna at Marra Pilerne. As her role was appreciated by the audience, she was encouraged to act in numerous tiatrs staged on the occasion of feasts in different parts of Goa.

Speaking further, she said that she was given a break on the professional tiatr stage by late Nelson Alfonso in his tiatr ‘Doganch Puro’ under the auspices of the dramatic troupe Young Stars of Goa. Subsequently she was picked by Ligorio Fernandes, in his Khell-Tiatr ‘Jasmina’ which was a big hit. She acted in numerous Khell-Tiatrs written and directed by Ligorio Fernandes.

Stalwarts of tiatr stage such as John Claro Fernandes used her in an important role in ‘Purtuguez Kolvont’ while Prem Kumar, seeing her brilliance in acting, offered her an important role in his tiatr ‘Kakut’. She has also acted in tiatrs written and directed by Patrick Dourado, Fr. Freddy J. Da Costa, Valent Mascarenhas, William de Curtorim, she disclosed.

Besides tiatr stage, she has engraved her name on the silver screen when she did an important and effective role of a vamp in the Konkani film ‘Jivit Amchem Oxem’.

Answering questions from the audience, she disclosed that she is not willing to act on the tiatr stage due to her health, while showed keen interest to act in a film if any director offers her a suitable role.

Shri. Tomazinho Cardozo, President of TAG, welcoming the artiste of the month and the audience stated that Philo de Pilerne was an excellent actress and hence she was offered roles by great tiatr artistes. She has helped a lot in making the performance of tiatrs successful due to her sheer interest and dedication to tiatr stage.

Tiatr artistes Jessie Dias, A. Friend, J. P. Fernandes were present for the function. The writers namely George Menezes, Fredrick Noronha and Dr. Rafael Fernandes were also seen among the audience.Also present was Rev Fr Concecao D'Silva, Parish Priest of Taleigao.

TAG Releases 3 Books on Tiatr

‘Lokam Khell’,‘Mummy, Mhaka Tuje Vengent Dhor’ and ‘Oxem Ghoddlem’ released !

“Printing and publishing of books of tiatr and tiatr related music and song will go a long way in preserving tiatr literature for posterity” stated Rev. Fr. Maunel Gomes yesterday (16/02/2012) at the Conference Hall of Tiatr Academy Goa, Campal Panjim. Fr. Manuel Gomes was speaking after releasing 3 books namely ‘Oxem Ghoddlem’, selected incidents in the lives of tiatr artistes written by Daniel F. de Souza, ‘Mummy, Mhaka Tuje Vengent Dhor’, a script of tiatr written by Albert Leo de Souza and ‘Lokam Khell’, a collection of 4 folk plays written by Vitorino Pereira. Speaking further Rev. Fr. Manuel Gomes complimented Tiatr Academy Goa for organizing numerous activities of tiatr, its song and music so that tiatr becomes more popular and get wider acceptance among the masses.

Shri. Tomazinho Cardozo, President of TAG, in his welcome address highlighted numerous schemes formulated by TAG for promoting tiatr, its song and music. He also stressed that TAG’s main aim is to improve tiatr – the most popular dramatic form of Goa – in all respects so that it achieves national recognition at the earliest.

Vincy Quadros, a noted Konkani writer expressed his opinion on the books ‘Lokam Khell’ and ‘Mummy, Mhaka Tuje Vengent Dhor’ and congratulated the writers Vitorino Pereira and Albert Leo de Souza. Shri. Tomazinho Cardozo spoke on the book ‘Oxem Ghoddlem’ and informed the audience that the book might be one of its kind containing experiences of 31 tiatr artistes which can contribute to the history of tiatr in times to come.

Shri. Daniel F. de Souza the writer of ‘Oxem Ghoddlem’ and Shri. Albert Leo de Souza the writer of ‘Mummy, Mhaka Tuje Vengent Dhor’ also expressed their feeling on the occasion.

2nd KONKANI KANTARAM SINGING COMPETITION


‘Results of TAG’s Kantaram Singing Competition announced’


Oshin J.Fernandes and Ciano King Fernandes bagged the 1st prize in duet category for the duet ‘Amchim Mummy Daddy’ in the Kantaram Singing Competition organized by Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) on 12th February 2012 at TAG’s Conference Hall. In the duo category, the song ‘Goykar ani Ghantti’ rendered by Saby Dias and Senon D’Souza won the 1st place. In the trio category, the song ‘Bhav Bhoin Cuniad’ sung by Hashvaine Fernandes, Hipolito Fernandes and Jaqueline Fernandes bagged the first prize. About 58 singers participated in the singing competition which was conducted in different categories such as duets, duos, trios, quartets and choral songs.live Music was written and provide by Agnelo Dias. Earlier Shri.Tomazinho Cardozo, President of TAG welcomed the gathering and stated that the importance of duets, duos, trios, quartets and choral songs is declining day by day. Hence TAG has attempted to encourage the singers of the duets, duos, trios, quartes, choral songs by organizing the singing competition. Ms.Reeya Pereira compered the function.

TAG's Somplolea Tiatristancho Ugdass Feb 2012


Kid Boxer, Miss Mohana and Rom Tony Remembered

Tiatr Academy Goa (TAG) organized its monthly programme ‘Somplolea Tiatristancho Ugddas’ yesterday (09/02/2012) at the Black Box of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao to remember veteran artistes of tiatr stage namely Kid Boxer, Miss Mohana and Rom Tony.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri. Tomazinho Cardozo, President of TAG highlighted the valuable contribution of the three great artistes to the tiatr stage in the yester years. Kid Boxer was a good writer, director and actor of the tiatr stage whose songs (Kantaram) which were full of wit and sarcasm made him extensively popular among the tiatr lovers.

Speaking further Mr. Cardozo said that Miss Mohana was a very brave woman who came on the tiatr stage much against the social taboos existing at that time. Besides being an excellent actress and singer, she opened the road for many female artistes to embrace the tiatr stage.

Speaking on Rom Tony, Mr. Cardozo highlighted his capabilities as one of the best and fastest composer of songs particularly trios which were sung by his popular trio group called Rom-Rem- Rod.

Many tiatr artistes who were present narrated their experiences with these stalwarts of tiatr stage and provided a lot of information about their works on the tiatr field. Other artistes rendered their songs in order to bring these late artistes live among the audience. The artistes namely Prince Jacob, Jessie Dias, Jack de Vasco, Anil Kumar and others participated during the interaction time.

Tiatr Academy's 4th Foundation Day

The 4th Foundation Day of Tiatr Academy Goa was celebrated with a special function on 2nd February 2012 at the TAG’s Conference Hall, Campal Trade Centre, Campal, Panjim.

The Chief Guest Shri. Menino Pires, Director of Department of Information & Publicity, Government of Goa, speaking on the occasion appreciated the work done by TAG to promote tiatr during a short span of 3 years. He further stated that TAG is very active in promoting the schemes formulated by it.

Speaking further, Shri. Menino Pires stated that TAG has succeeded in bringing the development of tiatr in a scientific manner. The schemes which not only includes performing activities but also development of research work in tiatr, music and song and children’s tiatr proves that TAG’s work will go a long way in preserving, promoting and developing tiatr.

Shri. Tomazinho Cardozo, President of TAG, in his address briefly outlined the schemes formulated by TAG for the promotion of tiatr, its song and music. He expressed satisfaction over the fact that the benefits of the schemes of TAG are taken by numerous tiatr artistes and tiatr lovers of Goa.

A brief entertainment programme presented by singers Lawry Travasso, Felcy and Sheik Amir and comedians namely Domnic, Luis Bachan, Humbert and Pitush was well enjoyed by the gathering.
